Mechanical insulation is a powerful technology yet it is often underutilized in energy conservation, greenhouse gas emission reduction and sustainability initiatives. The National Institute of Building Sciences formed the National Mechanical Insulation Committee (NMIC) for Building and Industrial Applications in 2006 to put the focus on this important technology that is so often taken for granted. NMIC brings together major governmental agencies, private industry and other organizations concerned with the design, installation and maintenance of mechanical insulation.
