The Betty and Mort Marshall Memorial Scholarship was established because of a generous endowment from the Marshalls, a sponsorship from the National Institute of Building Sciences, and contributions from friends, family and colleagues.

The scholarship was started in 2020, in their memory and in celebration of the distinguished career Mort enjoyed with Betty’s support. Mort was the first member of NIBS.

For nearly three decades, the National Institute of Building Sciences has recognized outstanding members of the built environment for their service, commitment, and dedication to the nation.

Awards nominations opened today, April 4, and they will remain open for several weeks.

NIBS just wrapped a successful Building Innovation 2021, virtually hosting hundreds of attendees September 27-29. We’re grateful to all of our BI2021 presenters, attendees, and sponsors.

Over the last few days, hundreds of BI2021 virtual attendees learned about everything from building resilience, safety and technology to building information modeling and climate injustice.

The third day of Building Innovation opened with remarks from Anne Ellis, Executive Director of the Charles Pankow Foundation and incoming Chair of the National Institute of Building Sciences, who spoke about this pivotal time for the building industry.

The nation’s existing buildings and infrastructure are being challenged in so many ways and by a number of elements, she said.

Connectivity has led to true equity in the work environment, said Lakisha A. Woods, CAE, President and CEO of the National Institute of Building Sciences.

Woods opened the second day of Building Innovation 2021, sharing about the pandemic and its continued challenges.

Technology is a means to an end, not the end itself, said Jessica O. Matthews, CEO of Uncharted.

Matthews, a dual-citizen of the U.S. and Nigeria, kicked off the first day of Building Innovation 2021, sharing personal experiences that led to her success as an entrepreneur and inventor. Years ago, Matthews created the Soccket, an energy-harnessing soccer ball.
