This past Friday, in its October newsletter, the Institute announced an extension of the early-bird registration deadline for the Conference because of an unexpected change in the venue. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Institute has relocated the venue of the event from the Marriott Washington Wardman Park in Washington, D.C., to the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel in Crystal City, located in Arlington, Virginia, directly across the river from downtown Washington, D.C. A major benefit of the new hotel is its location: less than a mile away from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

Following its first-ever call for abstracts for its Building Innovation Conference Series, the National Institute of Building Sciences has developed a program schedule to engage the entire building community and foster collaboration during Building Innovation 2017: The Institute’s Fifth Annual Conference and Expo, to be held January 9-12, 2017, at the Mandarin Oriental in Washington, D.C. 

This was the first time the Institute had issued an open call for presenters to Building Innovation and the response was higher than expected, with more than 150 abstracts received. After a review and selection process that included feedback from across the Institute’s program areas, the Building Innovation 2017 Planning Team came up with a schedule that supports the theme of the event—Collaborating for a High-Performance Future—and the goals of the Institute, while providing an exciting, balanced, interactive and educational event.

Building Innovation 2017: The National Institute of Building Sciences Conference & Expo, to be held January 9-12, in Washington, D.C., is a great way to earn continuing education units (CEUs) while hearing from a diverse group of speakers. With the theme Collaborating for a High-Performing Future, Building Innovation 2017 takes a new path to delivering educational content to engage the entire building community, combining a variety of concepts and presenting diverse perspectives during each session to stimulate creative ideas, present new approaches and develop workable solutions for the entire building industry. Building Innovation 2017 sessions have received approval for a total of 24.5 Learning Units (LUs) from the American Institute of Architects, many of which are Health, Safety, Welfare (HSW) hours.

The author and man who “repairs the fabric of cities,” Jonathan F.P. Rose, will serve as the Plenary Keynote Speaker during Building Innovation 2017: The National Institute of Building Sciences Fifth Annual Conference and Expo, to be held January 9-12, in Washington, D.C.

Building Innovation 2017, with its theme of “Collaborating for a High-Performing Future,” correlates well with Mr. Rose’s recently published book, The Well-Tempered City: What Modern Science, Ancient Civilizations and Human Behavior Teach Us about the Future of Urban Life. The book covers many of the topics the Institute’s councils and committees have been addressing to achieve resilient, high-performance buildings and communities. Following his keynote on Wednesday, January 11 from 12:00 – 1:30 pm ET, Mr. Rose will be signing copies of his book, which will be available for purchase on site.
