National BIM Standard Version 1 - Part 1: Overview, Principles, and Methodologies
NBIMS Cover This publication is the first in a series intended to communicate all aspects of the NBIMS Committee and planned Standard, which will include principles, scope of investigation, organization, operations, development methodologies, and planned products. NBIMS V1-P1 is a guidance document that will be followed by publications containing standard specifications adopted through a consensus process. The NBIM Standard Version 1 - Part 1 defines a minimum standard for traditional vertical construction, such as office buildings. It is assumed that developing information exchange standards will grow from this minimum requirement. (183 pp/2007)

The Standard also proposes a Capability Maturity Model (CMM) for use in measuring the degree to which a building information model implements a mature BIM Standard. The CMM scores a complete range of opportunity for BIMs, extending from a point below which one could say the data set being considered is not a BIM to a fully realized open and interoperable lifecycle BIM resource. (CMM V1.9)

United States National CAD Standard®
The NCS is a consensus standard incorporating industry publications. It is comprised of interrelated standards, guidelines and tools for uniformly organizing and presenting facility drawing information. It is the only comprehensive standard for facility planning, design, construction and operation drawings. It coordinates the efforts of the entire industry by classifying electronic building design data consistently allowing streamlined communication among owners and design and construction project teams.

The United States National CAD Standard® (NCS) V4 consists of The American Institute of Architect's CAD Layer Guidelines, the Construction Specifications Institute's Uniform Drawing System (Modules 1-8), and the National Institute of Building Sciences' Plotting Guidelines. (978 pp/2008)
