Dr. Jay Harris is the acting Director of the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) Office and research structural engineer in the Earthquake Engineering Group in the Engineering Laboratory at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). NEHRP is a coordinating federal program for earthquake monitoring, research, implementation, education, and outreach activities developed and conducted by the Program agencies: Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA); NIST; National Science Foundation (NSF); and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Dr. Harris works closely with building codes and standards development organizations and committees for seismic design and construction practice.
