The Building Seismic Safety Council (BSSC) kicks off the development of the 2026 NEHRP Recommended Seismic Provisions for New Buildings and Other Structures for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). As with prior editions, FEMA and BSSC expect this to be a collaborative effort of the NEHRP agencies and private sector construction and design industries. The general development process is illustrated below.
The BSSC is reconstituting its Professional Organizations (POs) to support the development of 2026 NEHRP Provisions. The POs will participate in the Provisions development process by balloting code change proposals that are passed in Provisions Update Committee (PUC) ballots and approved by the BSSC Board of Directors. The BSSC also welcomes collaboration with its POs in areas beyond the PUC proposal ballot, like outreach & education, design examples development, etc. The final list of BSSC POs will be decided by PUC and BSSC BOD for a balanced representation across the breadth of seismic design disciplines.
Submit your application by February 15th, 2021.
