Kevin Q. Walsh, PhD, PE, SE, is Associate Teaching Professor and Director of the Master of Engineering program in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences at the University of Notre Dame. He is also Principal of Frost Engineering & Consulting, where he provides leadership in structural engineering, building assessment, and infrastructure resiliency projects across the United States.
With more than 16 years of verified professional engineering experience and engineering registrations in numerous states, Walsh has established expertise in structural design, seismic evaluation, resilience, sustainability, historic preservation, and infrastructure asset management. His work spans commercial, industrial, educational, healthcare, residential, and data-center facilities, combining technical innovation with practical, real-world solutions.
At Notre Dame, Walsh leads graduate engineering programs and teaches courses focused on structural engineering, engineering resilience, sustainability, and professional practice. His contributions to engineering education have been recognized with the University of Notre Dame’s Rev. Edmund P. Joyce, CSC Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching. He is the author of dozens of peer-reviewed technical publications and has helped advance research and practice in structural engineering and infrastructure resilience.
Walsh earned a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the University of Dayton, a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Notre Dame, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering from the University of Auckland, New Zealand. Through his academic, research, and professional leadership, he continues to promote resilient, sustainable, and high-performing built environments.
