In May 2026, the MIT Humanitarian Supply Chain Lab within the MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics partnered with the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) to convene a roundtable on delivering resilient housing solutions after disasters. The roundtable brought together representatives from public agencies, insurance, homebuilding, industrialized construction, standards organizations, community development, nonprofit recovery, finance, design, resilient building, and research.

The event was held under the Chatham House Rule to support candor and was structured around three goals: 1) identifying approaches to deliver rapidly deployable, cost-effective, and resilient housing after disasters; 2) exploring how communities can shape demand to meet survivor needs and accelerate construction industry transformation; and 3) identifying policy and operational friction that slows the survivor journey back home. The discussion focused more on single-family homes than multi-family or rental housing.
